Sterling SilverCernunnos Knot
Pendant
This pendant depicts Cernunnos, the Horned God,
within a Celtic Knot design. This depiction of Cernunnos was inspired by the Horned God appearing on the Gundestrup Cauldron, a silver cauldron dating from between 200 AD and 300 AD which was found broken up in a Danish bog. In this pendant
Cernunnos is seated wearing a torc, the Celtic symbol of nobility,
holding two ram headed serpents. Ram headed serpents are associated with the dark half of the year, basically from Scorpio (symbolized by the snake) to Aries (symbolized by the ram head). The two serpents interlace with leafy vines to create a Celtic Knot design that ends at the bottom with the Green Man (underscoring Cernunnos's close connection with the Green Man and the Spirit of the Forest). Measuring approximately 7/8" wide and 1" tall (not including the bale), the Cernunnos Knot pendant is made of .925 sterling silver. The pendant is single-sided.
Symbolism:
Cernunnos is the Horned God of the Celts. Often associated with 'Hern the Hunter'
and the Green Man, Cernunnos
has come to represent the male side of Divinity in the Wiccan tradition. Lord of the Animals and of Wild Places, Cernunnos is the god virility, fertility and abundance. In his role as Lord of the Underworld, Cernunnos is thought to guide the souls of the dead to the Summerland where they await rebirth.
Endless Celtic Knot designs symbolize eternity and the interconnectedness of all things. The designs are protective symbols as well. Since it is thought that malignant energies can only move in straight lines, these energies get caught in the endless curving thread of the Celic knot where they can do no harm.
Silver:
One of the 7 magical metals of the Ancients, silver is the
metal of the moon. Like the moon, silver is linked to the element of water and the Divine Feminine. With its reflective surface, silver acts as a mirror; and the metal is is associated with psychic powers and clairvoyance. Silver is a protective metal and is often used to make protective amulets.
Dryad Design:
Dryad Design is the 'soul work' of artist Paul Borda. All designs are original, beginning with personal inspiration (including ritual and meditation) followed by extensive research. Dryad's jewelry designs include imagery from Celtic, Norse, Italian and Sumerian mythologies. Through his work, Paul hopes to support and inspire earth-based spirituality and to create images that resonate with all seekers of peace and beauty.
