  • Year: 1906
  • Modified Item: No

  • Condition: The surface of the steel has some areas of oxidation & some tiny areas of rust. The major part of the surface areas have natural pleasing patina from age combined with some sheen to the steel. We have only seen a few examples of this tool over the years. Sometimes the top turning knob is missing. So, it is nice that our top knob is present. We once saw one which had an additional piece that attached to it. So, we do not know if that additional piece was originally, when the tool was made, offered as an option? In many years we have only seen a total of seven including ours. IF ours is missing some small piece then 5 out of the other 6 we have seen also a had a piece missing.

    Description

In this listing we are offering a fine quality refined steel universal test indicator. The indicator is marked underneath at the center of the base: "The Koch Test Indicator Nyack, N. Y. Pat. July 17, 1906". So this dandy little item has a patent date which goes back around 115 years. The base also has eleven marker lines & a tiny needle that moves from right to left. Above the marker lines is the number 42024.
We have looked up the number 42024 to see if this might be a patent number. In our patent search the following info comes up under the number 42024: "Control or regulating systems in general; functional elements of such systems; monitoring elements or testing arrangements for such systems or elements (fluid-pressure activators or systems acting by means of fluids in general)". But, we have not located patent papers. Also, we cross checked the number 42024 on the tool & that number does not match up with utility patent numbers given as the range for 1906. The range of the utility patent numbers for 1906 are listed as ranging from 808618 through 839798. So, we do not know if or if not we have found any applicable info to this tool in the info mentioned above.
We do not have any idea what this indicator was made to test. There is a projection on each end of the central rectangular case. There is a knob that turns at the top center of the rectangular case. This tool measures 3 7/16 inches long by 3/4 inch wide by 1 1/4 inches tall to top of knob. The weight is 3 ounces. The surface of the steel has some areas of oxidation & some tiny areas of rust.
In any event, a nice condensed size & appealing tool that could fit in a tiny space.
