2021 Canada Arms of Canada -- Moments to Hold #4 - IN STOCK!
This listing is for the
2004 Proof 50 cent coin
which was struck as part of a set of 4 coin set to show the changes in the Canadian coat of arms (on our coins) over the years from 1937 - present. The four coins in the set retrace the effigies of the Queen that have appeared on the 50 cent coin since 1953. The coat of arms that appears on the reverse of each coin reflects the design that was in use when each new effigy was introduced.
The obverse shows the first Queen Elizabeth "Royal Diadem" obverse that was seen on our coins from 2003-present. The coat of arms of Canada was introduced in 1921 under King George V. The coat of arms features many different elements like the crown, the crest, the helm, escutcheon, ribbon, motto ("a mari usque ad mare" which comes from Psalms 72:8!), supporters (the English lion and the Scottish unicorn) and compartment.
In the coat of arms are found the symbols of the four founding nations of Canada: the three lions of England, the lion of Scotland, the harp of Ireland and the fleur-de-lis of France. In 1994 the coat of arms had a ribbon added. It says "Desiderantes Meliorem Patriam" which means "they desire a better country".
This 50 cent coin was minted in sterling silver and the finish is a proof finish on this coin. It is 27.1 mm in diameter and weighs 9.3 grams. You will receive the coin in a 2 x 2 cardboard holder (see photos)
Note that the photos I post in my listings are all from my own inventory. However, for items like this one where the products are brand new from the mint and are identical the photo posted in the listing is a STOCK photo meaning that the photos
represent
the item you will be getting. Normally there is almost no difference between the photo you see in the listing and the actual product you are sent. Certificate numbers (if shown in a photo) are an example of something that will not be the same in the item you receive.
